“October, baptize me with leaves! Swaddle me in corduroy and nurse me with split pea soup. October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins. O autumn! O teakettle! O grace!”
Rainbow Rowell

I’m a big fan of autumn, me.  I’ll hear nothing ill spoken of it!  All gets, “safely gathered in e’er the winter storms begin.”  And we’ve been busy little squirrels doing just that, with more work for us to do in the next few days.

Pitching our tent at the Port Colborne Farmers’ Market has been a great experience from mid-August with just a couple of dates left until we pack up, end of October.  It’s amazing how we’ve connected with lots of new people, as well as with so many who have a past attachment to our happy band of congregants. We’ll be looking for ways to keep up the momentum.  And if you’ve been following us on Facebook (PresbyterianPortColborne) you’ll know that the contributions of market produce by shoppers and vendors alike has been, like, …. WOWZER.  The workers at the Food Bank are all smiles and laughter when they see us drive up!

But the harvest continues!  This, from our friends at the Food Bank:

“In case you have not yet heard, the Port Colborne/Wainfleet Lion’s Annual Food Drive is taking place this Saturday October 23rd in support of the Port Cares Reach Out Centre food security programs, with Port Colborne drop-off located at Christian Life Assembly Church (484 Barrick Road) from 8am-12pm as well as volunteer drivers on pickup routes City-wide, Wainfleet drop-off at Meridian Credit Union on Hwy 3 from 9am-12pm.”

And if you’re looking a wee bit farther ahead, as we hunker down for the winter, we have Remembrance Day coming up too.  The Legion seems to have lawn signs available if you would like to show support at home:  https://www.poppystore.ca/signs/lawn-sign-we-will-remember-them-300773?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=poppystore&utm_term=lawnsign&fbclid=IwAR0qmZg_cyZsxQUu7SGtdXCylaN4Nrk_0tfwFU_CTexWUSnTIuNlF4eVt14  A quick glance at the long-range weather forecast looks good so we may be gathering at the Cenotaph this year … with Rev. Adam taking part in the ceremony.  Rain or shine, it will be live streamed.  (I’ll see if I can get details.)  Get it in your diary!

And, of course, we continue Zooming through selected Bible passages with the ‘general’ Bible Studies group on Wednesday mornings and Ladies’ Bible Study on Thursday mornings.  Contact Rev. Adam (minister@thegp.ca) to get on the list and he’ll zip the zoom details to you.

Do come and join us at The Gathering Place for worship on Sunday at 10.30 a.m. but, if staying home is your preferred option, watch for the video … probably out on Tuesday next week.

Keep safe, keep well, and God Bless.

“I would rather sit on a pumpkin, and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion.”
Henry David Thoreau
